What is Project Mars War?

Project Mars War is meant to be a rating tracker for competitive DDR. It implements an ELO rating system to keep track of who is ranked where.

So how does this all work?

Players are rated based on an ELO rating system. In this system, when a match is completed, points are exchanged between players based on who wins and who loses. The benefit of this system is to encourage players to play against others that are similar in rating. For instance, a higher rated player would only gain a small number of rating points if facing off against someone who is much lower rated. For more details, check out the Rating System page.

Where are you pulling information from?

Currently we are only pulling information from tournaments in start.gg

Why aren't tournaments from Challonge being factored in?

Mainly, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Challonge also has an interesting challenge (no pun intended) where tournament organizers have free reign over how users are input into the system. This makes matching up matches to players difficult. I am currently working on a way to map the information together and hope to implement it at some point.

How is Life4 implemented into this?

Life4 users have the added benefit of getting properly rated based on what their rank is. This ensures that matches get properly rated, making it so higher rated players aren't crushing players that are lower rated and benefitting from larger rating bumps. Initial ratings are linear in that bronze get a rating of 400, silver 600, gold 800, and so on up to onyx which gives a rating of 2000.

I have a Life4 account. Why did I not get an initial rating?
This happens when your Life4 account name does not match what is in the tournaments. A manual list of players is kept for some people, but you can also make sure that your names match between systems in the future.

Why am I not rated?

Players must have more than 5 matches in tournaments with at least 20 participants to be considered for ranking. Your rating will still be tracked but you will not be ranked against other ranked players. This is all subject to change.

I know I played in a tournament that is not here. Where is it?

To encourage participation in larger tournaments, only tournaments that have more than 20 participants are counted. If you played in a tournament that was in start.gg that had more than 20 participants and you cannot find it, let me know and I can add it!

Why do some matches not have scores?

In smash.gg, whoever is running the tournament has the ability to simply mark who the winner is without having to input a score. Those scores get returned as a -1 which is obviously not useful, so we just give them a default value.
